Published by InHabit magazine in August 2025, this light-hearted article captures my experience at the Key of Sea singing and kayaking retreat at the beautiful Pacific Sounds Lodge in Bamfield, BC.
Yes, the weekend was amazing, and yes I can be a little grumpy cat about guided meditation-style yoga!
Distilling the multi-faceted adventure into an article was a testament to the challenges of editing as I had to take my (4,000+ word) draft and shape it into a 1,200 word piece that worked in the field notes, journal style. Thanks to Peter Reek and Annie Brandner at InHabit for the opportunity.
Don’t know what Field Notes are? Usually used to describe brief, observational (qualitative) descriptions by researchers “out in the field”, it is also a well known brand of beautifully-designed and vintage-inspired journals/pocketbooks and calendars. In addition, Field Notes (the brand) creates very cool film documentaries about some of their design inspirations and author series outputs. Excellent viewing if you want to fall down a rabbit hole of content that is well crafted and truly inspiring!
