Profile image of writer Anne Farrer

Anne is a Vancouver Island-based creative writer masquerading as a marketing professional, or vice versa depending on the day. A keen observer, her work reflects the beauty and humour of everyday life. Self-deprecating, funny, and heartfelt; her writing is unapologetically personal and displays a deep love of the written word.

Anne’s writing has included essays, short stories, poetry and an as-yet-unseen-but-rumoured-Oscar-worthy screenplay about a plucky teenager named Paulie. With support from designer and photographer friends, she self-published two small chapbooks of her work: Exit This Side, recounting stories and impressions from her daily commute on Vancouver’s SeaBus; and Keep Door Closed, a personal exploration of love and loss through poetry, short stories and song lyrics. Both wee books can be ordered here.

Anne’s writing has been published in The Globe and Mail First Person section, with (hopefully) more credits to come. Her chapbook Exit This Side was chosen to be part of the North Shore Authors Collection of 2019/2020.

In addition to writing, Anne has a freelance consulting firm Troubadour Creative, which offers brand strategy, content development and marketing expertise. She has decades of agency-side experience working for iconic Canadian brands and is known as a gifted brand strategist. She is a past board member for Arts Umbrella a Vancouver-based non-profit centre for arts education and current board member of the Vancouver Island MusicFest.

Anne has a rather pointy chin which when aimed in your direction may (accurately) be interpreted as a sign of aggression. Growing up as a vertically challenged girl with a Boxing Day birthday has left her feeling rather gypped by life. The two greatest compliments she has received to date are 1) that she has a mighty heart and 2) that she is a writer. In both regards she hopes to live up to the hype.
