Colour photo of Anne Farrer with tideline poem

tideline

My poem “tideline” is on the Uranus Gifts storefront for the month of April 2026 as part of poetry month celebrations. This year’s theme, established by the League of Canadian Poets in partnership with Native Women in the Arts, was LAND & SEA, and poets were asked to consider their relationship with water and land. My piece details a small person who’s stuck, injecting layers of meaning onto what a border can mean.

tideline

a sprite-sized foot submerged in muck
wet ooze between toes
empty gumboot one step behind

hands pinwheel air, seeking purchase
salty rivers flow, lamenting comfort lost
sand and sea flow to one

yet freedom salts the tongue
and small feet yearn fresh paths
all borders are messy up close
